Lilith's Temple at Abbotsford's First Multicultural Festival
October 4th 2008

The Lilith Temple Society was invited to attend the inaugural Multicultural Festival in Abbotsford, and we gladly accepted. The ideals behind such an event are very dear to us and this was an awesome opportunity to present to the general public an open and positive face, showing the Pagan community in our true colours.

Our goals were to give people unfamiliar with these Spiritual Paths a basic idea of what our values are and how our Spiritual Path enriches our lives.
We know there are many misconceptions about Paganism, many of them perpetuated by Hollywood and pop culture in the form of urban legends and old wives tales, and we thought it was a great opportunity to clear away some of those cobwebs.

So we created a simple and colourful display of the Elements, with a short explanatory card for each.

We provided handouts on the Temple, several different Pagan Paths, and Labyrinths, because we also had a walkable Labyrinth there.

The day was a hit, we were all set up on time and had a number of Temple
members manning the booth all day.

About 30 or so people walked the Labyrinth and at least as many walked away with information sheets and a few more just asked questions or commented on the booth.

I'd like to think that at least a few folk shed some of their misconceptions, and I know that we allayed some fears - as well as pointed several people in the direction of finding more information.

Two of our young members, Kaitlin and Saphira, performed on-stage for the fair-goers by singing a number of songs they chose as spiritually relevant to them as Pagans.

The Festival itself was a big hit, with at least 3000 people attending and the space filled with a wide variety of ethnicities, special interest groups and religions, entertainment going non-stop on several different stages and some great food and things to do and see for folk of all ages.

We're looking forward to doing it again next year, and hope you'll join us!

Blessings Be Upon Thy Path,
Kate

(Apologies for the quality of the photos, some things can't be helped.)
